"For this season's Rodarte collection was all about genus Apis. Or, let's say, 70 percent about bees. The rest was Janis Joplin. Bees! You wouldn't have guessed. Except, atypically for a Rodarte collection, you could have. Once pointed out by Laura and Kate Mulleavy, the bee references were as clear as day: The honeycomb-ish layering of lace and dotted tulle; the safety pins lined up along trouser legs ,their sheathed pins like so many stinger; the curious, beehive bodice decoration on the show-closing gowns and cocktail frocks. The most salutary influence the bee thing had on the Mulleavys, though, was the collection's emphasis on flowers. Alongside the much-used floral embroideries and appliqués, there were a few iterations of the flower idea that, for Rodarte, felt genuinely new. The Mulleavys' little bit country, little bit rock 'n' roll leathers featured lace-like cut-outs in floral shapes, for instance, and this collection marked the first time, in recent memory, at least, that the sisters have seen to use such a vibrant print (floral in this case, of course)." - vogue.com
