It's Couture Week: Giambattista Valli Spring 2017

"It’s not the first time that creasing-as-decoration has seen the light of day—Martin Margiela, Miuccia Prada, and more recently Alessandro Michele at Gucci have all tried their hand at creating the notion that their clothes have had a life before they’ve made it onto the runway. This has to be one of the first times it has been explored at couture level, though, and it was a more human-scaled counterpoint to Valli’s general modus operandi when he’s working on these collections, where he’s a firm believer in making big, as in really, really big, gestures. For the most part, though, it was ball gowns galore for Spring. Some were constructed out of countless yards of tulle and mousseline, a Valli standard, while others were traced in graphic formations with crystals, so they conspired to somehow look both extravagant and minimalistic at the same time. If one can talk about trends at couture, then it’s this: The Ball Gown Is Back. How this rates in a world where so many women are currently engaged with activism and empowerment, who can say? But after all, this is the haute couture, so why not go all out? No one came here looking for a hoodie, after all." - vogue.com

Book Review: "All The Missing Girls"

My daily commute to and from work had never been better, for once I actually looked forward to getting on the TTC! Knowing for the next 20-25 minutes I would be consumed with the crazy lives of the Farrell family. Megan Miranda 's "All The Missing Girls" has been widely compared to novels by Gillian Flynn, and I couldn't agree more. "All The Missing Girls" is about a small town girl, Nicolette Farrell, who leaves her adolescent past, filled with tragedy, mystery, and secrets, for a new start in a big city. But when Nic's father falls ill and is moved into an assistant living facility, she has to move home for the summer to help her brother with some family affairs. When her "neighbour" Annalise goes missing one night, memories and people from her past quickly resurface,  causing more problems than answers. From the character development to how this novel was written, I loved every part of it. Such a great read, that will keep you guessing until the very last pages. Be sure to head to Chapters (paperback) or Kobo (e-books) to pick up your copy and be devoured by the secrets of Cooley Ridge, North Carolina.
NOTE: I purchase all my Books/E-Books from either Chapters or Kobo and always use my Ebates account to get Cash Back from my purchases! Be sure to sign up for Ebates by clicking HERE.

New Year, New Wardrobe...

I wish! And for most of us it is a wish, I mean who wouldn't love to buy a completely new wardrobe every year or season, because I would! Since that isn't my reality I have gotten very creative with revamping and refreshing my wardrobe season after season! It's as simple as introducing different colour/pattern combinations, changing up or adding accessories, investing in quality core pieces, opting for trendy pieces at fast-fashion stores (like Forever 21, H&M, Zara), and treating your man every once in a while to some amazing pieces from Bonobos. Check out some of my other Fashion Do's and Don'ts below that will help you fall in love with your wardrobe all over again.
Fashion Do's:
  • Go through and clean out your closet every Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer.
  • Organize your closet by categories. I have mine separated into Tops/Blouses, Dresses, Skirts, Pants, Shorts, and Sweaters.
  • Take inventory of what you have and don't have.
  • Fit is everything. Invest in tailoring to be sure you look your best.
  • Add a sweater or tights to tank tops and shorts to get more use all year round.
  • Use fashion magazines and blogs to pull inspiration from. Some of my favourite hours spent are getting lost on Pinterest.
  • Take care of your clothes. I am constantly cleaning and maintaining, it is the reason why my clothes last so long.
  • Explore new brands and stores. Your style won't evolve if you continue to look the same.
 Fashion Don'ts:
  • Head out shopping without some sort of list/plan. It's like going to the grocery store hungry, you end up spending more money on things you don't even need.
  • Shop/wear the trends because you think you have to. Not all trends work for all people/body shapes. Know what works for you!
  • Expensive isn't always better, some of the "cheaper" stores will surprise you.
  • Try to copy someone else's style. Style can be inspired but it needs to be your own.
  • Purchase anything without trying it on.
  • Be afraid of online shopping. Most companies offer easy exchanges/returns in-store.
  • Be afraid to take a fashion risk. Some of my best/favourite looks have been looks that took me outside my fashion comfort zone.
  • Keep clothes just for the sake of having them. Everything should serve a purpose.
 My Fashion Secrets:
  • The Gap has the BEST jeans and are extremely reasonably priced (only $79.95).
  • Most Dry Clean only clothes can be washed on delicate or by hand and then hung to dry.
  • My space-saving hangers are from The Bay. More space = more clothes!
  • I love a good sale and I will stock up on basics and core pieces.
  • Signing up for Emails can be annoying, however I find out about the best new arrivals and sales/promotions that way.
  • I love Forever 21 for season trends.
  • It's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed.
  • Have the in-store sales associate help you. Sometimes they will pick out pieces that you would have never picked or even scene.

It's Couture Week: Chanel Spring 2017 Couture

"I wanted something impeccable, clean. I wanted the girls to look like walking fashion drawings,” said Karl Lagerfeld, adding, “And I must say, I love feathers!” It sounds contradictory, but this was a calm and stripped-back Chanel couture show by Lagerfeldian standards. There was no immersive set, no overt theme, and an absence of jokey accessories or visual puns. Once one had taken in the fact that the mirrored circular runway reflected the famed Art Deco mirrors of Coco Chanel’s stairs at her atelier on the Rue Cambon, there was nothing to distract from the contemplation of the essence of haute Chanel-ness itself. At the beginning, Lagerfeld put a sustained emphasis on tailoring—a neglected art in womenswear these days. From then on, it was all about silver sparkle and silhouette. As the show progressed into evening the silver sparkle showcased the maximum capabilities of the Lesage embroiderers. Couture is at its best, always, when it wears the fruits of its labors lightly." - vogue.com

Hippie, Boho, Glam at its Finest!

Kendall Jenner was spotted in NYC filming a cameo for the upcoming movie, "Ocean 8", and of course Kenny was impeccably dressed! Honestly this girl can do no wrong, whether casual street wear or red carpet ready her looks are always on point. Which also has a lot to do with Kendall's Stylist, Monica Rose. Regardless, for the film Kendall wore a sheer lace frock with turtleneck and flared sleeve details. Letting the gown do all the talking her hair was whisped back, natural makeup, and diamond studs were the only accessories. I'm OBSESSED and am so excited to see Kenny on the big screen June 2018!

Q Beyonce's "Hey Goldmember"

Camila Alves took her hubby's new movie title, "Gold", very literally at the NYC Premiere last week. Alves opted for a gold lace frock with both fringe and applique detailing. Although some may think that frock is too much, I think the overbearing amount of detail is what makes this piece unique and artistic. However, the over-kill of the necklace and earring combo is throwing me off, big time. I mean individually these are stunning pieces and maybe if Camila just wore the earrings that would have complimented the overall look, but worn together was a bit of a mistake. I did like that Alves kept her hair and make up simple, going with a top knot and natural eyes with a nude lip. I guess all we can hope for is that "Gold" is as good as this frock was on Camila Alves!

Embellishment to the MAX!

Zoe Saldana walked the Black Carpet at the Hollywood Premiere of "Live By Night" last week wearing this heavily embellished turtleneck and tea-length skirt, and all I can say is OBSESSED! Saldana kept accessories and glam to a minimal with white stilettos and simple stud earrings, while a straight blowout and natural makeup with a bold lip completed her H2T look. This may not be Zoe's best look but I am loving this seasonally appropriate outfit that screams red carpet worthy.
