New up at Paris Couture week was the much anticipated Dior Couture Runway Show. After announcing Raf Simons as the new Creative Director earlier this year, everyone was waiting to see what the designer would do with the Fashion House. Now with Raf Simons' first collection for Christian Dior under his belt he must be feeling quite satisfied with the outstanding response from industry peers. Anna Wintor was quoted saying "Isn't this amazing? A million flowers", Diane von Furstenberg said the collection was "superb" and "another talented Belgian!" and Nina Garcia, said the show was "beautiful, perfect, and simple." The 1947 New Look was clearly Simons' inspiration for the collection, however modernizing it to be more suitable for 2012, guests were heard calling the collection the NEW NEW LOOK, quite the compliment I would say. He used Dior's signature colours and embroidered patterns but with a twist. Incorporating the exaggerated peplum, wasp-waisted dresses, balloon-skirted gowns, pleating, feather detailing and the classic cigarette pant in his collection. The old and new, Dior and Simons', combo seems to be a match made in heaven.
