It's #NYFW: Badgley Mischka Fall 2017

"It’s been a minute since Mark Badgley and James Mischka put on a proper show, and for their return to the runway, the designers went all out. Ahead of the first looks, the stage was set with furniture from their debut home collection. Models perched amongst the tufted settees and gilded canopy beds, decked out in the new line of casual (well, by their standards) Badgley Mischka sportswear. Fall is a season of expansion for this tried-and-true New York label, and while Badgley and Mischka are clearly thinking ahead, this season’s core inspiration was gathered from the past.“We’re caught between some wars right now,” Badgley said backstage. “We went back to the time when Europe and America were between the two World Wars.” He added, “It’s about the women living in those uncertain times and how they used power and strength to soldier through—it resonates today.” Perhaps this is why the pair thought that it would be an appropriate time to introduce an easier, everyday ready-to-wear category, though the blue velvet tracksuit, fur stoles, and embellished sneakers hardly felt dressed down. Nonetheless, the new pieces fit well into the Badgley Mischka woman’s wardrobe, as did the rest of their glittering lineup." - vogue.com

It's #NYFW: Alice + Olivia Fall 2017

"Last year on her birthday, Stacey Bendet received a very special gift. Salman Rushdie gave her a miniature copy of his novel The Enchantress of Florence and, in turn, inspired her to create a Fall collection filled with nods to Indian emperors and the Italian Renaissance. The story is about a woman forging her own way in a man’s world, a theme that’s been underscored at nearly every show this week. Bendet, however put her own peppy, funky spin on the topic, showing cute and colorful wares that would befit a modern-day maharani or Botticelli chick. She also offered up a slogan tee with the phrase Be the change you want to see in the world. Bendet made it clear that this wasn’t about forcing a political conversation. “It’s about taking everything you’re seeing and hearing and interpreting it as your own,” the designer said. Bendet had a lot to offer for Fall, with a sweeping lineup. Options are what she does best, and this season the idea of mixing and matching and making bits of the collection one’s own, if only to escape reality for a bit of fun, felt totally on the nose." - vogue.com

It's #NYFW: Victoria Beckham Fall 2017

“I’ve never really worn a blazer with a skirt,” Victoria Beckham said in the midst of fittings a day before her show. For a designer searching for a creative spark, that’s just about the best reason to try something—you simply haven’t done it before—and it proved a worthwhile exercise for Beckham this season. She paired her structured, slightly oversize blazers and sheer chiffon skirts with slouchy, knee-high leather boots. The look was a world away from where she started eight and half years ago—pulled together, yet relaxed, with versatility built in. Sometimes the billowy skirt came with a generously proportioned turtleneck sweater. Other times she put a full pantsuit together, but she retained the easy attitude with full, hip-slung trousers and martingales that pulled the jackets partially back, as if the models had just encountered a strong breeze. In counterpoint to the ease of the tailoring and dresses, her new season bags are quite structured. The square styles the models clutched to their hips were modeled after a vanity case, inspired, she said, by her Estée Lauder partnership. Beckham’s power women would probably prefer something that will fit an iPad; she has those, too." - vogue.com

It's #NYFW: Alexander Wang Fall 2017

"The RKO Hamilton Theater is a fabulous wreck up on the corner of Broadway and 146th Street, way, way out of range of most Fashion Week goings-on. It was packed to the peeling rafters for Alexander Wang’s show tonight anyway, even without the promise of an after-party. Wang played up the no after-party thing; the phrase was stamped across the T-shirt he wore to take his running bow, and it crawled up the sheer stockings some of the models wore. This must’ve been meant ironically because his collection, which was almost exclusively black, was very much in the key of party girl. He opened with tailoring, splicing traditional suiting fabrics with sweatshirting to take the starch out. But from there he moved swiftly on to catsuits, leather pants, shorts, stretch denim with bold silver button-flys, and chain mail tees. Westernwear is a developing Fall trend, turning up first at Calvin Klein yesterday, and here at Wang in the form of fringed shirts and jackets. He also used ball studding and rhinestones as accents." - vogue.com

It's #NYFW: Sachin & Babi Fall 2017

"A whiff of nostalgia and introspection hit Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia this season. The reasons are many: Not only are they celebrating 20 years in business and marriage, but they’d also just returned from a trip to Jaipur, India. There they reignited their love for bejeweled pieces and lively prints, finding inspiration not only in classically Indian ideas but also in the vestiges of the British empire like botanical wallpapers and Jodhpur silhouettes. “Heritage” read a crest at the bottom of the show notes; backstage, the pair spoke of a fusing of cultures. The third culture in the mix here is that of America, where the Ahluwalias have lived for decades, turning their fabric business into a staple fashion collection of the society set.The fusion couldn’t have gone better. Among the catwalk highs were a series of what you could only call eveningwear anoraks, silky, floral, and cinched at the waist with elastic drawstring. The fur-clad guests that attended the brand’s runway show at the National Arts Club in Gramercy will probably want to snatch it up immediately." - vogue.com

It's #NYFW: Kate Spade New York Fall 2017

"Though Kate Spade New York chief creative officer Deborah Lloyd stated that she was “feeling the color red” this morning at the Fall 2017 presentation, a show goer couldn’t fail to notice that detail for themselves. The setting was the second floor of the opulent, red lacquered Russian Tea Room. The bold atmosphere circled back to the devil-may-care attitudes of women in Paris during the 1920s. Of the three women Lloyd cited, including iconic flapper Louise Brooks and entertainer Josephine Baker, perhaps the key one was the red-hatted subject of the painting Le Coquelicot by artist Kees Van Dongen. Lloyd imagined the unknown character to be a Russian émigré who took her motherland pieces with her to Paris. Focusing on that Eastern European flair, Kate Spade signature florals were done in Slavic style, à la Russian Khokhloma, and were prettily embroidered down a red cape and along the edges of a black coat, or delicately dotted a high-collared lace dress. Lloyd has been using more folk references in her recent collections. Applying these far-flung, often bohemian-associated motifs is refreshingly shaking up the prim uptown reputation of the Kate Spade brand." - vogue.com

It's #NYFW: Tadashi Shoji Fall 2017

 

Tadashi Shoji’s Fall show notes had a call to action. “The time to express your true self is now,” they read. Backstage, the designer added: “I was inspired by the youth revolutions of the late ’60s and ’70s—from Tokyo to Paris to New York. That’s the flavor!” That wellspring was pretty wide, and out of it emerged something of a perplexing, though no doubt appealing to some, result. If your “true self” prefers the medieval stylistic inclinations of, say, Sansa Stark with a hearty dash of ’70s/’80s-style prom-ready glitz, then you might love this collection." - vogue.com

Book Review: "The Woman In Cabin 10"

Where do I even start; with so many twists and turns it's hard to know. Ruth Ware's "The Woman In Cabin 10" starts off with Lo Blacklock experiencing a traumatic brake-in leaving her extremely shook up and paranoid, however with an important career opportunity on board a luxury cruise ship only days away, Lo need to try and keep herself together for the sake of her career and reputation in the industry. After having a pleasant first couple of days on board, Lo believes to have been witness to a body being thrown overboard, but all passengers are accounted for. As the cruise continues Lo desperately continues to figure out what happens because she knows in her heart that what she saw was no dream. This book is a crazy page turner, can't put down, finish in a day kind of read. The mystery of what actually happened on board keeps you on your toes until the very last pages. If you haven't heard of or picked up this book yet, you will not be disappointed!

This Is Just The Start Of #NYFW Celeb Style

New York Fashion Week is literally my favourite semi-annually event! NYFW is different than the other Fashion Weeks, there's more of that cool, almost laid back, sense of style, that allows us to see celebrities in a more natural public environment, which allows them to be themselves fashionably, I just love it! This look Nicky Hilton wore to the Lanyu Couture Presentation last week is sheer perfection. I love this cape and lace panel detailed blouse, paired with a high-waisted leather pencil skirt also with lace hem detailing. This outfit is the definition of "it's all in the detailing".  Keeping her accessories simple she went with black pumps, diamond studs, pulled back pony, lightly kohl lined eyes, and a soft pink lip. I haven't seen Nicky out very much since giving birth, but she's definitely left me wanting more with this look.

Chrissy's Superbowl Weekend Style

I love Chrissy Teigen's style, it is so fun and sexy, and this number she wore at the DIRECTV Super Saturday Night Event during last week's Superbowl Weekend was no exception. I am loving this amazing monochromatic look. Her black and white patterned micro-mini, paired with thigh-high black boots, black clutch, and gold earrings was perfection. Then layered with a mauve lip, bronzed smokey eye, and a high pony, just wow! Honestly, I haven't seen Chrissy look THIS good in a while.
